Let’s talk about the status quo — that fancy phrase for “the way things have always been.”
Because honestly, who decided “the way things are” was good enough?
As mothers, wives, and working women, we live in a world that expects us to hold it all together while smiling through chaos. And sometimes, the only way to survive is to question everything — to challenge the script, rewrite the story, and learn from every glorious, messy, life-changing lesson along the way.
So here are 62 life lessons I’ve learned (and keep relearning) as a woman doing her best to balance it all — faith, family, finances, and the occasional meltdown in the car.
SPIRITUALITY: THE GROWN-WOMAN EDITION
-
You never fail — you just keep retaking the test until the lesson finally sticks.
-
Spiritual growth isn’t a one-day event; it’s a lifelong group project between you and God.
-
Faith is personal. No one can live it for you.
-
You can love God and still struggle to live a victorious life — it’s called being human.
-
Sitting in church doesn’t make you spiritual any more than sitting in a garage makes you a car.
-
Faith without action is like a Wi-Fi signal without data — pointless.
-
The government and your boss can’t save you. Only purpose can.
-
Good and evil both exist — pretending otherwise won’t make it go away.
-
Not every “spiritual” person acts spiritually. Don’t let that confuse your connection to God.
-
Forgiveness sets you free, not the person who hurt you.
-
Don’t give your money to any place of worship that doesn’t help its community. Faith should serve people, not just fill offering baskets.
PERSONAL: LIFE IS A WHOLE MOOD
-
Gratitude changes everything. Even bad days have hidden blessings.
-
Life isn’t fair — but that doesn’t mean it can’t still be beautiful.
-
Self-doubt is a liar in cute shoes. Don’t listen to her.
-
You can’t control life, but you can control your reaction.
-
It’s never too late to start over — even on a Wednesday.
-
It’s okay to be afraid; just don’t let fear drive the car.
-
You’ll never have all the answers. That’s why Google and prayer exist.
-
There’s no other you on this planet — so stop auditioning for someone else’s role.
-
Perfection is a scam. Progress is the real flex.
-
Minding your business is a spiritual gift. Use it often.
-
It’s easier to see other people’s truth than to face your own. Be brave enough to do both.
-
Stop keeping up with the Joneses. They’re broke too — just better at posing.
-
Not everyone will support you. Some will watch quietly — that’s okay. Do it anyway.
-
You can’t please everyone. Even Beyoncé gets criticized.
-
Everyone will have an opinion on your life. Live it your way — YOLO, mama.
-
Que sera sera — what will be, will be. Worrying won’t change it.
-
Karma doesn’t miss. Ever.
-
Success looks different for everyone — define yours.
-
Success takes consistency, not perfection.
-
You’ll never feel “ready.” Start anyway. Marry him, launch it, book the flight.
-
Choices come with consequences — pick wisely.

Life needs a plan, even if it never goes according to plan.
-
If you don’t design your own life, someone else will hire you to build theirs.
-
Want to know your future? Look at your parents’ patterns. Repeat what works. Break what doesn’t.
RELATIONSHIPS: THE LOVE, THE LESSONS, AND THE LETTING GO
-
Your parents aren’t psychic — they’re just human with opinions (and trauma).
-
Treat people kindly; we’re all riding the same train to the same destination.
-
Real people are rare — when you find them, hold them close.
-
Good friends are worth more than money.

The best romantic relationships start as strong friendships.

Don’t punish the world for the mistakes of a few.
-
Not everyone sees life the way you do — and that’s okay.
-
Diversity in thought, race, and belief is a gift — not a threat.
-
Everyone in your life has a role: some lift you up, some hold you down. Learn the difference.

-
People make time and spend money on what they value — pay attention to that.
EDUCATION: LEARNING NEVER STOPS
-
Education is freedom — but wisdom is power.
-
You’ll never stop learning. Stay curious.
-
Life lessons > exam grades. Always.
MONEY & CAREER: ADULTING WITH A PAYCHECK
-
You can be anything you want to be — not just the “respectable” jobs your aunties approve of.
-
Money isn’t evil. The love of it is.
-
And no, money does not grow on trees (but wouldn’t that be nice?).
-
A big paycheck doesn’t mean you understand money.
-
You don’t have to live life on the hamster wheel — there are other ways to earn and thrive.
-
The myth: work, save, retire, then live. The truth: life is happening right now. Enjoy it.
-
Your boss isn’t your best friend. Stay professional and protect your peace.
-
Your school report card doesn’t matter anymore — your financial report card does.
-
The bank will never go broke. Why? They literally print their own money.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Every lesson I’ve learned has come wrapped in joy, pain, or chaos — sometimes all three. But every single one has shaped me into the woman I am today: a mother who’s learning balance, a wife learning patience, a woman learning peace.
So challenge the status quo. Question the “supposed to’s.” Rewrite the rules that no longer serve you.
Because at the end of the day, this life — this beautiful, exhausting, hilarious life — is your classroom.
And every day you wake up, you get to learn again.
